Hi Dr, I went for a massage 48 days ago. After 15 mins of massage, she gave me a hand job (hand-genital contact). I also fingered her with only my middle finger for 30 sec. My middle finger had no cuts. But my index finger had a small cut at the area where the nail is connected to the skin. The cut was 2 days old. And I touched my penis after fingering her. I also sucked on her breasts but there was no secretion of breast milk. A week after my exposure I experienced diarrhea, runny nose and a slight fever which lasted for a few hours. I also had migraine which lasted for a few hours, but I am not sure if it is because of anxiety or the symptom itself. I have no pain while urinating neither is the any unusual secretions from my penis. I had a few rashes on my shoulders which lasted for 2 days and then they went away. I am really not sure if my anxiety are causing these conditions or if it is the illness itself. I can also feel my lymph nodes on my neck but they are not swollen. My diarrhea problem is on and off and it is really worrying me. Are these symptoms of HIV or STDs or are they just occurring due to anxiety? Do you think that in my situation, I could have contracted HIV or any other STD from the masseur? What are the chances of me contracting HIV or any other STDs? Am i worrying unnecessarily? I went for a rapid HIV blood test at 25 days post exposure. The result was negative. My opinion is that I most probably do not have HIV as have asked two other doctors previously but I am still worried about STDs. Please help me doctor. I feel that your opinion will be of great use to me. Thank you.
The risk of being infected with STIs from fingering is unlikely; even if there is open wound or cut, it is also considered as low risk. There has been no documented case of someone infected with STIs through this activity.
Your current state is not due to this encounter and you may wish to see a doctor for it. A screening for STI including HIV basing from this account is unneeded.
Dear Doctor ,
7 days ago had sex with sex worker ,used condom during the entire process ,however at one point condom broke during vaginal insertion.Pulled out and replaced the condom immediately 15-30 seconds with new one. There was no ejaculation during the entire sexual intercourse. My question is what is the risk of HIV infection and what do I need to do with regards to testing(STI-STD)?Can I do any test and what tests do you recommend. There is a slight burning sensation on penile tip but no discharge present.
Thanks for time and advice
Since you are having sensation, you may wish to see a doctor or STI specialist like the DSC Clinic. You will need to hold urine for 4 hours before the swabs can be taken. Additional swabs may also be taken from the rectum and throat. The tests can be done shortly after exposure and will screen for: - Gonorrhoea - NGU/Chlamydia
You may also wish to take a blood test 3 months after exposure for HIV, Syphilis and Hepatitis B.
have some questions, it is not regarding symptoms or effect of HIV, but what Govt will do to those HIV + ppl. On DSC webbie: 1. HIV + ppl 's details are kept confidential Yea, employer wont know, still got rice bowl. How about immediate family members? Will DSC get their family support group to inform the person's family ? If they dont inform, i wonder how they stop HIV + ppl from having sex. Who can watch after them. And also how exactly they stop them from having unprotected sex, if there are other ways. 2. HIV ppl will be referred to Tan Tock Seng Hospital Is medication made compulsory for those HIV + ppl ?? or they can choose not to take? Actually the medication is just a suppressor, there are ppl who live for 15 to 20 years with no medication. 3. HIV medication is how much monthly?? 4. Ppl who got HIV, still must contribute CPF =.- ?
Once diagnosed HIV positive, the individual will be referred to CDC, Tan Tock Seng Hospital for further management. The person will be offered consultation by the doctor including other tests, and if necessary, medication will be given. The patient will also be offered counselling in addition to contact tracing. All medical records are kept private and confidential. However, under the infectious diseases regulation, the spouse will be informed by CDC for testing if the positive individual did not notify the spouse to come for screening. All these are for the total management of the carrier and regulate the spread of infection.
The cost of managing a HIV carrier is very subjective, depending on the services, tests and medications needed. Generally, the medications needed may range from few hundreds to over a thousand monthly.
If the respective person remains employed, there will still be CPF contributions. In summary, life goes on for a HIV infected person provided that there is proper management.
hi i hav protected sex twice with a sex worker on 28/12 in bangkok. I does not have any cuts or visble wounds at that time. I am scared that i might haved HIV. I went for the oral rapid test on the 3rd week and the result is negative. Assume that the condom tear in the middle of the intercourse, what is my chances of getting HIV if she is HIV positive. The family doctor tells me that i am low risk as it need alot of discharge from her vaginal fluid to be high risks.
If you did have protected oral, vaginal and anal sex, the risk is minimal for STI and HIV. Condoms, when used correctly and consistently and where there is no breakage or leakage, provide effective protection against STI and HIV.
As you had done a screening at the 3rd week, you can retest at the 3rd month for a conclusive result. This will help you to allay your fears even if there is a tear in the condom.
Hi..
I went to a massage parlour. I sucked on her nipple and fingered her. She gave me a handjob as well. Are there any need to go for hiv testing?
Your encounter did not put you at risk for STI and HIV, hence, testing is not needed.
Dear Doctor,
My husband has got an engineering job in Singapore but I am a Hepatitis B carrier since last 7 months but I dont have any health issues, I would like to know will I be eligible to get work visa or dependent visa?
Thanks
There is no issue for infections like Hepatitis B except if the applicant is a HIV carrier.
Hi. If I have just finished a course of antibiotics (for sore throat), and will like to get PCR tested for chlamydia/gonorrhea, is there a period of time I must wait? Will the antibiotics affect the accuracy of the PCR test? Or can I immediately go for testing? Thanks.
So long as you had not taken antibiotics that are used for treating urethritis condition like Chlamydia or Gonorrhoea, you can go for the screening at any point of time.
Hi Doc,
Yesterday i went to a strip club did the following activities:
1.Took a lap dance from a girl, the girl was fully naked and was sitting on top of my penis(me wearing pant and underwear). She touched her nipples on my lips but my lips were tied together.
2.The girl was grinding on top of my penis and so i came in my underwear(i was wearing a thin pant on top of my underwear)
3.After returning home i found that my pant had a wet spot right on top of my penis. Now this could be the girls vaginal fluid or my cum which came out(because the pants was of a thin cloth)
If it is girls fluid am i at any risk of HIV or any other infection?Do i need to undergo testing?
I am a worried soul do answer my queries.
Dear Sir/Madam,
Recently, I went to DSC for STI test in Dec 2011. Below are the things being tested.
1. Urine test (2 bottles) PCR test for Chlamydia/gonorrhea/Syphilis
2. Swab test
3. Blood Test
The reason why i go for the test is beacuse i often found red rashes on my penis head but no milky discharge and i got concern as i do have unprotected Oral sex with sex worker 3 months ago(but protected sex). I am afraid i got STI as some symptoms does look the same. (like Chamlydia) So during the test, Swab was taken and they found no infection. Doctor told me it was Balanitis and that my soap caused the irritation,he told me to change to a mild soap and prescribe me with Hydroderm-C cream. After 2 weeks,i got my result and my other tests are normal but the rashes still comes on and off.
This is the 2nd time i test for STI. First test was 6 months before and was tested normal also.
So now i would like to ask if since the test are normal (i do not have any more sex activity since 2nd test), can i trust the result? Please advise.
Please advise.
The tests results are conclusive provided no further exposure takes place. If your Balanitis persists, please continue to see a doctor.
The signs and symptoms are not indicative that there is HIV infection as there are many other illnesses that present with similarities. It is always best to consult a doctor and to take a screening test for HIV. When doing a HIV test, you need to take note of the window period, which is between 1 to 3 months or 4 to 12 weeks after an exposure. You can go for a HIV test at the 1st month(4 weeks) and repeat at the 3rd month(12 weeks) for a conclusive result.
Hi Doctor,
A quick questionon on Hep B.
My partner is a Hep B carrier. I am immunized through Hep B vacinnation. Current blood test reading on Hep B antibody is around 75.
Is it true that I will get a "natural booster" each time I have unprotected sex with my partner? If so, does it mean that my antibody readings will go up?
Thanks.
Since you had received the vaccination for Hepatitis B, you may be protected even if your partner is a carrier. The immunity reading could possibly go up, although there is insufficient evidence to testify this. As long as your antibody has been tested to be above 10, you are protected for life.
How fast the health of a person deteroriate if suffer from hiv without treatment?5
Generally, this is about 8 to 10 years but is very subjective to the individual carriers, depending on the virus, immunity, health etc.
Hi doctor, I never had sex with onyone except my wife. But I do visit massage pearl ours time to time. Before 2 weeks I had massage. After the massage she gave me a handjob. I washed everything with clean cloth. But for last 2 weeks, very small amount of white fluid comes out my penis. It was burning for 2 days while peeing, but later no burning, no smell. I have read on Internet about uti infection, so I started having cranberry juice and lots of water. Now after 2 weeks, I don't feel any problem with my health feel fully fit.
We would not be in the position to speculate on what could be the cause of the problem. We would advise you to visit a doctor as a physical examination is needed.
Hi,
I recently been to a massage parlour and received a handjob with oil. I didn't touch the woman. Would like to know whether STDs can be transmitted due to the contact mentioned and do I need to take any tests just to be sure?
Please advice.
Hand job or masturbation will not put you at risk for any STI.
Hi Doctor, I've protected sex and unprotected blowjob with a CSW about 14months back. So far, there's no generic symtoms or anything unsual happening to me. Has been healthy for the past 1 year and up till now. But the thing that is still haunting me is the fact that the condom broke while I was having sexual intercourse with the CSW.
I did not notice that the condom broke until i ejecualted and took my penis out. I would just like to know the chances of contracting HIV from this case. I'm pretty sure I'm STD free because of the fact that it happened over a year back and the symtoms for STD shows after a couple of weeks.
Sorry if I am demanding but would it be possible to let me know the chances of contracting HIV? It's like a barrier to me from actually having a proper relationship with a female partner. I'm actually quite scared to take the test so I'll probably rely on the statistic of contracting HIV
Thank you very much for your time and effort to reply to me.
If you did have protected oral, vaginal and anal sex, the risk is minimal for STI and HIV. However, on account of the unprotected oral sex and the broken condom, you may be at a low risk for HIV. Condoms, when used correctly and consistently and where there is no breakage or leakage, provide effective protection against STI and HIV.
In order to allay your fears for HIV, you may wish to take a screening now for peace of mind.
I recently had protected oral and protected penetrative sex with a female prostitute.
I fingered here a number of times with no protection, and used my spit to lubricate my index and middle fingers. My fingers would have been wet/moist from her vaginal fluid and they would have come into contact with my lips and tongue on two to three occasions. She also lightly fingered my anus but only just with her fingernail.
I had a slight cold/cough/sore throat for the week leading up to my interaction and I had two dry cuts on the cuticle of my index finger. I also had a cankersore on the tip of my tongue.
My sore throat has gotten dramatically worse immediately afterwards (i.e the next morning) and has been quite bad for the past three days. Seems to be very swollen glands.
I am worried that my symptoms and the episode with the prostitute are linked.
Can you please let me know what risk I am at in relation to either STDs or HIV based on the scenario above.
If I have put myself at risk for an STD, can you please indicate which is most at risk?
Many thanks for your advice.
The rest of the activities did not put you at risk. Your symptoms are not related to STI and HIV.
Hi dr,
I'm asking on behalf of a friend. He visited a barber for a haircut recently, and the barber used a blade to shave the back of his neck. Normally, barbers will change to a new disposable blade for each individual customer but my friend said he didn't really notice if the barber changed it, or if he was using the same one as the previous customer. My friend is worried because after the haircut, he noticed there were drops of blood at the back of his neck, the nape area, when he wiped it with tissue. The blood were in droplets, which means the blade has graze the skin surface which resulted in the slight bleeding. His question is, assuming the previous customer has been graze by the blade too, and he happens to be carrying STIs like hep A, B etc, or HIV, or Herpes, will the virus stay on the blade, and therefore, transmitted to my friend after the barber failed to change the blade?
And also, do a herpes carrier need to have an outbreak before a blood test can be accurate? Because I have read some posts online, and they say that a person needs to have at least an outbreak before the blood develope antibodies, but if a person never had an outbreak before, a blood test done at 12th week or more will result in a false negative? Is it true?
Thank you for your time.
Generally, razor blade or shaver will not pose a risk for infections like HIV, Syphilis, Hepatitis B and C unless there is fresh blood stain but still being used on a next person who gets a cut from it. Hence, it is a safe practise as well as personal hygiene not to share items like blades, toothbrushes etc. Usually, the barber would have change to a new blade or clean the stain before using again as this will pose a threat for themselves as well. Herpes is usually diagnosed at the time of presentation. A specimen from a blister can be sent to the laboratory for viral culture, which is still the current gold standard for diagnosis. A blood test is reliable if it is done by the latest method, which is known as Type Specific Serology Test (HSV TSST) for Herpes but it may not be widely available. This is to screen for previous exposure to the virus, which can be done 8 weeks after the exposure. All other forms of blood tests have not been known to be reliable.

Hi doc,
I am really stressed out i recently went to a thai massage parlor in sydney city where a lady gave me massage on my back with some massage oil , as the room was dark i dint care to see her hands if she had any cuts or wounds, she massage me with her elbows and palms for 30mins and then she got a warm cloth and clean that oil from my back .
I had 2 small red raised spots which did not popped but i saw them after massage and pressed them they did not bleed but where red as if filled with blood .
2 days later i went back to her and asked her if she have hiv she said no its a professional massage centre and she was actually upset and told why did u hurt my feelings. That day i asked her to show her hands , palms and elbows there was no cut as her skin was white i dint see any cut or any strains left.
My question is is there any possiblity of hiv transmission if we presume she is positive and had a cut on her hand which was very minute and that a negligible amoout of blood from her hand has came in contact with the closed pimple but with some natural pores.
Please explain me the risk as my anxiety is almost killing me .....
I also had an hiv test 20days after the incident which was negative.
test was a combination of hiv-1-2, p24antigen test.
Please help me and plz tell me have these kind of transmissons occured since the existence of hiv.
Sorry i might be wasting your tme but i m too anxious.
Your encounter did not put you at risk for STI and HIV.
It has been established that HIV transmission takes place in four ways : 1. Unprotected sexual intercourse with an infected partner 2. Blood transfusion with contaminated blood and blood products 3. Sharing contaminated syringes and needles 4. From infected mother to child during pregnancy, at birth or through breast feeding
Dear Dr,
I have been dealing with these symptoms for 3 weeks:
1. Penis head under the foreskin became red and glossy with a little itchyness.
2. Itchyness at the tip of penis, no noticeble discharge and odor
3. No pain during urination, however, I could feel the pain sometime during ejaculation.
4. Uneasy feeling on the right testicle at the 1st week which had gone off by now.
Am I infected with STI? or these are just physical abrasion from sexual activity?
I'm very concerned, please help.
Thank you.
Hi doctor
Few months back while working I had to unpack dry ice. Due to the froze bite my middle finger skin became black. No pain or bleeding whatsoever. Next day went to gym did weights without problem. That evening went drinking and a unknown women took my hands and rub her vagina for about 10 seconds. Coming to my senses I shoo her away.
I did not think much of it. 1 week later I came down with very bad flu which lasted 2 days. Few days lAter develop red rashes on both my shoulders and side of torsos. The rashes on shoulders went away over night but rashes on torso remained. B4 dat I took strong ginseng tablets so maybe I put the rashes to reaction to dat.
However I still came down to dsc to show the rashes on my torso to doctor who said it was not related to any std inc HIV and told me my risk wAs close to zero. Relieved I carried on with my life. However lately my wife got throat and ear infection and now my mind is roaming again. What if I was infected and I infected her. Is fingering really safe? PleAse assure me. Thank you.
